The Pietra Ligure MTB Shuttle Tour is the high-elevation freeride experience of the Finale Outdoor Region. Focused on the rugged slopes of Monte Carmo and the backcountry ridgelines above Pietra Ligure, this 8-hour private itinerary delivers massive vertical relief, alpine singletracks, and the most demanding stages of the Enduro World Series (EWS).

Departing from Finalborgo, the tour accesses high-mountain terrain via the Giogo di Giustenice pass at 1,200 meters. The riding transitions from fast, flowing alpine loam and tight beech woods down to steep, physical limestone rock gardens and exposed slabs overlooking the Ligurian coast. Using our dedicated Finale Ligure bike shuttle vehicle, your private group secures 6 to 8 long mechanized uplifts (approx. 4,500 vertical meters of descending).

Led by a certified local mountain bike guide, trail selection adapts dynamically to group speed, technical endurance, and live trail conditions. Tackle historic EWS stages and technical test pieces including Stai Karmo, Hell Boy I & II, Hiroshima, Oltrefinale, Dog Eat Dog, and Ruote di Pietra. For experienced enduro riders seeking steep technical gradients, raw natural terrain, and long alpine descents, this is the benchmark Monte Carmo shuttle experience.

General characteristics

  • One of the most demanding Trail Zones in the Finale Ligure Outdoor Region. Located on the slopes above Pietra Ligure, it is renowned for long alpine descents, significant vertical drops and a concentration of iconic Enduro World Series trails.

Terrain

  • Expect a constantly changing mix of compact forest soil, exposed limestone, rocky slabs, loose stone, steep natural slopes and mountain ridgelines. The terrain alternates between dense woodland, open alpine sections and panoramic traverses.

  • The Trail Zone combines fast flow trails such as Hiroshima, Hell Boy and Oltrefinale with more technical descents including Stai Karmo, Dog Eat Dog and Ruote di Pietra. Long descents, natural features, compressions, berms, rock gardens and technical line choices define the riding experience.

Daily Program

08:30 Meeting, Briefing & Bike Check Staging and meet-up in Finalborgo (exact GPS coordinates provided upon booking). Daily briefing: Review of group objectives, live trail status (openings and maintenance closures), and planned uplift logistics. Pre-ride inspection: Verification of tire pressures and thorough check of rear suspension linkages and pivot bolts (essential for riders on multi-day shuttle trips), followed by bike loading onto the trailer.

09:40 Morning Riding Session (Giustenice & Monte Carmo 1,200 m) Approximately 40 minutes of shuttle ascent to reach the first trailhead in Giustenice, then climbing up to 1,200 meters on the slopes of Monte Carmo for the first long descent. Second mechanized uplift baci to the top of Monte Carmo for another long, more technical descent.
13:00 Lunch Break Group choice between a quick sandwich stop or a traditional sit-down lunch at an affiliated backcountry osteria (€18 to €20 per person). A fixed portion of every lunch bill directly funds local trail maintenance and infrastructure.
14:00 Afternoon Riding Session (Flexible Sector Choice) The tour moves away from Monte Carmo, deciding the afternoon area directly with the group: either staying close to the coast or heading inland toward the Isallo sector (trails like Isallo Extasy, Revenant, Fast & Furious).
17:00 Return to Finalborgo & Post-Ride Aperitivo Final shuttle transfer back to Finalborgo for bike unloading. Optional post-ride drinks and aperitivo (beer o’clock) in the historic center.

This tour is rated STS S2 to S4 (ITRS Level Advanced). Riders must have proven experience on steep, natural terrain, high-traction rock slabs, tight off-camber sections, and loose stone. A solid level of physical endurance is required for continuous long descents.

Due to the significant length and vertical drop of each descent on Monte Carmo (often 800 m to 1,000 m per run), private groups typically complete 6 to 8 mechanized runs between 09:00 and 17:00, totaling approximately 4,000 to 4,500 vertical meters of descent.

The base rate is €450 for private groups of 1 to 5 riders. For larger groups, the price is €540 for 6 riders and €630 for 7 riders. This includes the exclusive vehicle, professional driver, fuel, and a certified local mountain bike guide for the full 8-hour day.

A full-suspension Enduro bike with at least 160 mm of travel front and rear is required. Reinforced tubeless tires (Super Gravity, DoubleDown, or DH casing) are strongly recommended to withstand the sharp rocks and high-speed compressions. A helmet and knee pads are mandatory; a full-face helmet and back protector are strongly advised.

The tour starts and ends in Finalborgo at 08:30 (departing at 09:00). Your private vehicle and driver stay dedicated exclusively to your crew for the entire day, handling all road transfers between Monte Carmo, Giustenice, and Pietra Ligure.
