description

This tour is built for riders who crave raw singletracks and remote vibes. We’re leaving the crowded spots behind to hit the massive trail network of Bardineto and Castelvecchio, where the terrain is as authentic as it gets. The day kicks off with a shuttle drop at Forte Melogno. A quick warm-up through the Barbottina forest leads us to the first descent: a long, fast plunge straight into Bardineto. Quick caffeine hit, then we earn our views. A punchy climb up Monte Sravaion will get your heart rate up, but the payoff is one of the most rewarding and fun ridges in the entire Finale Outdoor Region. We wrap up the morning session with Supercanaletta that drops us right into Castelvecchio for a proper local lunch.Afternoon Session After refueling, we tackle two more iconic backcountry gems. We close the loop with a final asphalt transfer to meet the train, heading back to Finale for the mandatory after-ride drinks.

general characteristics

Remote backcountry terrain stretching between Bardineto, Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena and the Val Neva. Characterised by long descents, extensive forest sections and a predominantly natural trail network, it offers a markedly different experience from the more developed coastal riding zones.

terrain

Mixed natural terrain featuring compact forest soil, exposed limestone rock, loose sections and occasional old mule-track surfaces. Trail conditions can vary significantly between shaded woodland and drier south-facing slopes.

trails

A diverse mix of fast-flowing singletrack, natural enduro trails and old-school descents. Long runs such as Parpage, Pianfieno and Appendaun are combined with more technical trails including Ca du Campo, Supercanaletta and Dondella, creating a balanced blend of speed, flow and technical features.

A Medieval Jewel: Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena

The Village: Nestled against the rocky slopes of the Val Neva, Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena is a perfectly preserved medieval fortress-village. With its ancient stone houses, narrow alleys, and the imposing ruins of the Clavesana Castle, it feels like stepping back in time.

The Experience: Riding through the territory of Bardineto and descending towards this village offers a striking contrast to the wild, rugged trails of the backcountry. This hidden gem is officially recognized as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” (I Borghi più belli d’Italia). It’s not just a passage point, but a true highlight of the tour, where the history of the Ligurian mountains meets the adrenaline of the trails.

September, October, November, March, April and May are considered the best months for MTB riding in Finale Ligure thanks to stable temperatures, reduced summer traffic and optimal trail conditions. During these periods, the terrain typically offers the best balance between grip, dry surfaces and rideable natural singletracks, making the area ideal for enduro, shuttle-assisted riding and long technical descents. Spring and autumn also provide the most consistent riding conditions across zones such as Base Nato, Melogno and the Finale Outdoor Region, with cooler weather and excellent visibility on coastal and inland trails.
